US cold finished bar imports up 23.7 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold finished bar totaled 9,949 mt in January 2023, up 23.7 percent from December but down 34.7 percent from January 2022 levels. By value, cold finished bar imports totaled $19.4 million in January 2023, compared to $16.1 million in December and $24.4 million in January 2022.

The US imported the most cold finished bar from Canada in January, with 2,218 mt, compared to 1,624 mt in December and 2,332 in January 2022. Other top sources of imported cold finished bar in January include Germany, with 2,088 mt; Italy, with 1,594 mt; and Spain, with 1,122 mt.
