US cold finished bar imports down 1.5 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold finished bar totaled 15,073 mt in April 2019, down 1.5 percent from March and down 19.2 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, cold finished bar imports totaled $21.3 million in April 2018, compared to $21.9 million in the previous month and $27.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cold finished bar from Germany in April, with 3,999 mt, compared to 3,224 mt in March and 3,646 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported cold finished bar in April include Italy, with 2,701 mt; China, with 1,998 mt; Canada, with 1,610 mt; and Spain, with 1,236 mt.
