US, Canadian rig counts see additional declines

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 23, the US rotary rig count experienced a 9-rig decline, bringing the current US rotary rig count to 700. The number of rigs drilling for gas declined by 6 to 162, while the number of rigs drilling for oil was declined by 3, bringing the current oil-rig count to 538. The overall rig count is still down by 62 percent, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 36 in the week ending December 23 to 126. The Canadian rig count is now down by 130 from 256 rigs during the same week a year ago.
