US beam imports up 95.2 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 64,983 mt in January 2023, up 95.2 percent from December and up 42.2 percent from January 2022 levels. By value, beam imports totaled $76.4 million in January 2023, compared to $43.1 million in December and $52.7 million in January 2022.

The US imported the most beams from Luxembourg in January, with 13,171 mt, compared to 790 mt in December and 11,458 in January 2022. Other top sources of imported beams in January include Spain, with 11,309 mt; United Kingdom, with 10,303 mt; Canada, with 8,431 mt; and Mexico, with 7,603 mt.
