US beam exports rise 4.2 percent in July

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 33,705 mt in July, up 4.2 percent from June but down 21.7 percent from July 2016 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $30.5 million in July, compared to $29.7 million in the previous month and $38.5 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in July with 28,145 mt, compared to 26,822 mt in June and 29,097 mt in July 2016. Other destinations include Mexico, with 3,596 mt. There were no other significant destinations (over 1,000 mt) of US export beams in July.
