US beam exports drop 3.7 percent in April

US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 31,695 mt in April, down 3.7 percent from March but up 1.8 percent from April 2016 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $29.5 million in April, compared to $31.0 million in the previous month and $27.0 million the same month last year.
 
The US shipped the most beams to Canada in April, with 24,748 mt, compared to 26,172 mt in March and 23,374 mt in April 2016. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 5,510 mt. There were no other notable (over 1,000 mt) destinations for US beam exports in April.
