US and Canadian rig counts rise week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 11, the US rotary rig count increased by 15 to 338 rigs. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by four to 79, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by 12 to 258. The overall rig count is now down by 461 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by nine to 111 rigs in the week ending December 11. The Canadian rig count is now down by 42 rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
