US and Canadian rig counts continue to drop week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 14, the US rotary rig count decreased by four to 1,071 rigs following a one-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas stayed level at 198 while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by four to 873. The overall rig count is now up by 141 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 12 to 174 rigs in the week ending December 14, following a 13-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 64 rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
