One of the leaders of the Russian industrial equipment industry, Uralmash Machine-Building Corporation (Uralmash), and Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Works (ChMK), a subsidiary of the country's coal and steel producer Mechel, have concluded a strategic partnership agreement with the aim of upgrading ChMK's existing production capacities in 2008-2010.

Under the terms of agreement, ChMK's production capacities will be modernized through placing orders for equipment, including blast furnace and electric arc furnace workshops, rolling mills and oxygen converter equipment, with Uralmash.

The major projects include modernization of continuous caster No.2, blast furnaces No.3 and No.5, repair of the 20-roll mill and supply of equipment for ladle turrets for the continuous bloom caster.

In addition, ChMK has also plans to install new sintering equipment, which will allow the mill to increase its sinter production capacity from the current 4.5 million metric tons to 6.5 million metric tons.
