Ukrainian steelmakers issue Jan-Nov production data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first eleven months of 2007.

Accordingly, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) increased its finished steel products output by two percent, its crude steel production by 0.3 percent, its pig iron production by 0.2 percent, pipe production by 16.1 percent and agglomerate production by 13.6 percent year on year in the first eleven months of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 5.002 million, 6.359 million, 117,800 and 11.698 million.

During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 5.7 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a 5.4 percent rise in crude steel production, a 7.7 percent increase in pig iron production, and a 2.4 percent rise in its coke production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 5.068 million, 5.746 million, 4.942 million and 1.267 million.

In the first eleven months of 2007, Makeevsk produced 985,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 31.5 percent, and 1.626 metric tons of crude steel - up 14.7 percent, and 1.702 million metric tons of pig iron - up 47.5 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

In January- November 2007, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its finished steel production by 7.7 percent to 3.219 million metric tons, it upped its crude steel production by 5.4 percent to 3.582 million metric tons, its pig iron production by 9.1 percent to 2.961 million metric tons, but decreased its agglomerate production by 3.4 percent to 4.494 million metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

During the given period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih registered a 3.9 percent increase in its finished steel production, a 7.8 percent increase in its crude steel production, a 7.1 percent rise in its pig iron production and a 6.2 percent increase in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 6.491 million, 7.437 million, 6.623 million and 10.947 million.

In the first eleven months of 2007, Enakievsk Metallurgical Plant (EMZ) produced 2.540 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 8.5 percent, 2.519 million metric tons of crude steel - up 9.6 percent, 2.206 million metric tons of pig iron - up 10.7 percent, and 2.052 million metric tons of agglomerate - up 4.9 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

Finally, in the January-November 2007 period Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 3.7 percent, crude steel production by 1.4 percent, pig iron production by 1.2 percent and its agglomerate production by 0.8 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 3.422 million, 4.097 million, 3.393 million and 5.194 million.
