Ukrainian steelmakers issue Jan-May production data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first five months of 2007.

Accordingly, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) increased its finished steel products output by 3.5 percent, its crude steel production by 2.3 percent, pig iron production by 3.8 percent, pipe production by 9.5 percent and agglomerate production by 5.8 percent year on year in the first five months of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.31 million, 2.9 million, 2.31 million, 47,300 and 5.01 million.

During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 11.7 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a 14.3 percent rise in crude steel production, a 18.5 percent increase in pig iron production, but a 2.7 percent drop in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 2.24 million, 2.56 million, 2.21 million and 793,000.

In the January-May 2007 period, Enakievsk Metallurgical Plant (EMZ) produced 1.42 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 12.8 percent, 1.13 million metric tons of crude steel - up 7.8 percent, and 965,000 metric tons of pig iron - up 6.5 percent, compared to the same period of 2006.

In the first five months of 2007, Istil produced 392,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 36.1 percent, and 414,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 36.6 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

In January-May 2007, Alchevks Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its finished steel production by 3.5 percent to 1.4 million metric tons, but decreased its crude steel production by 0.8 percent to 1.566 million metric tons, its pig iron production by 3.3 percent to 1.228 million metric tons and its agglomerate production by two percent to 2.107 million metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

During the given period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih registered an 8.7 percent increase in its finished steel production, a 12.4 percent increase in its crude steel production, a 12.4 percent rise in its pig iron production and an 8.5 percent increase in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 3.004 million, 3.483 million, 3.096 million and 5.096 million.

Finally, in the January-May 2007 period Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 2.6 percent, crude steel production by 2.7 percent, pig iron production by 2.9 percent and its agglomerate production by 3.5 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.55 million, 1.87 million, 1.5 million and 2.34 million.
