Ukrainian steelmakers issue Jan-Aug production data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first eight months of 2007.

Accordingly, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) increased its finished steel products output by 4.9 percent, its pig iron production by 0.4 percent, pipe production by 20 percent and agglomerate production by 10.7 percent year on year in the first eight months of 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 3.632 million, 3.611 million, 82,200 and 8.35 million. However, Ilyich saw a 0.8 decrease in its crude steel production to 4.62 million metric tons.

During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 7.4 percent increase in its finished steel products output, an 8.5 percent rise in crude steel production, a 12.8 percent increase in pig iron production, but a 0.5 percent drop in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 3.68 million, 4.15 million, 3.57 million and 1.29 million.

In the January-August 2007 period, Enakievsk Metallurgical Plant (EMZ) produced 1.74 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 4.5 percent, 1.74 million metric tons of crude steel - up 2.5 percent, and 1.5 million metric tons of pig iron - up 1.8 percent, compared to the same period of 2006.

In the first eight months of 2007, Istil produced 641,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 19.6 percent, and 681,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 19.5 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

In January-August 2007, Alchevks Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its finished steel production by 5.1 percent to 2.32 million metric tons, its crude steel production by 0.5 percent to 2.6 million metric tons, its pig iron production by 2.1 percent to 2.01 million metric tons, but decreased its agglomerate production by 6.2 percent to 3.27 million metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

During the given period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih registered a 4.9 percent increase in its finished steel production, a 10.1 percent increase in its crude steel production, an 8.6 percent rise in its pig iron production and a 6.3 percent increase in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 4.75 million, 5.44 million, 4.85 million and 8.01 million.

In the first eight months of 2007, Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant (Makeevsk) produced 708,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 29.3 percent, 1.192 million metric tons of crude steel - up 19.2 percent, and 1.289 million metric tons of pig iron - up 43.5 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2006.

Finally, in the January-August 2007 period Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 2.5 percent, crude steel production by 1.9 percent, pig iron production by two percent and its agglomerate production by 2.5 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.5 million, 3.02 million, 2.427 million and 3.8 million.
