Ukraine’s steel and pig iron outputs down in February from January

In February this year, Ukraine’s steel industry registered considerably weaker production results, partly amid unfavorable business conditions in the global market.

In the given month, crude steel production in Ukraine amounted to 1.69 million mt, down 8.3 percent month on month, according to Ukrmetallurgprom. As for pig iron, the total production went down by 7.5 percent month on month to 1.599 million mt. In the finished steel segment, the decrease in output was considerably bigger with a drop of 12.8 percent month on month to 1.464 million mt in February.

As a result, over the first two months of the current year Ukraine’s crude steel and pig iron outputs amounted to 3.534 million mt and 3.328 million mt, decreasing by 0.2 percent and 1.5 percent year on year, respectively. Meanwhile, finished steel production in the given period increased by 4.7 percent year on year to 3.145 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned.
