Ukraine’s rolled steel products consumption rises by 36.1 percent in Jan-Apr

According to the data issued by metal trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, in January-April this year Ukraine consumed 1.838 million mt of rolled steel products, up 36.1 percent year on year.

In April 2010, Ukraine's consumption of rolled steel products increased by 1.4 percent compared to March and by 56.3 percent compared to April last year.

In January-April this year, the share of imports in the domestic rolled steel product market amounted to 21 percent, up from 11.5 percent in the same period last year.

During the first four months of the current year, the biggest year-on-year increases were seen in the consumption of angles, wire rod and beams, rising by 55.6 percent, 28.5 percent, and 23.6 percent respectively. Meanwhile, rebar's consumption again posted a decrease, of two percent, for the period in question.

In January-April 2010, Ukraine's consumption of rolled steel products, excluding pipes, was as follows:

In January-April this year, Ukraine's biggest consumers of rolled steel were the metal trade sector, the shipments to which amounted to 28.4 percent of total rolled steel product deliveries, followed by the pipe sector, with its share of overall consumption in the domestic rolled steel market amounting to 25.7 percent, and machine building, with a share of 17.9 percent.
