Ukraine’s rolled steel product consumption rises 37.8 percent in Jan-Oct

According to the data issued by metal trading enterprise Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK), in January-October this year Ukraine consumed about 5.6 million mt of rolled steel products, up 37.8 percent year on year.

In October, Ukraine's consumption of rolled steel products increased by 3.3 percent compared to September and rose by 45.8 percent compared to October last year.

In January-October this year, the share of imports in the domestic rolled steel product market amounted to 20.7 percent, up from 13.7 percent in the same period last year.

The biggest increases were seen in the consumption of angles and cold rolled sheet, rising by 34 percent and 25.9 percent year on year respectively in January-October 2010. Meanwhile, in October, rebar deliveries increased by 11.9 percent year on year and by 18.1 percent month on month.

During the first 10 months of this year, UGMK noted the increase of the share of ‘other rolled steel products' in Ukraine's total rolled steel product consumption to 37.8 percent from 27.1 percent in the same period last year, mainly due to the rise of 4.4 percentage points in the share of round billet, the increase of 1.4 percentage points in the share of round bar, and the rise of 0.8 percentage points in the share of square billets.

In January-October this year, Ukraine's biggest consumers of rolled steel were the metal trade sector, shipments to which amounted to 29.2 percent of total rolled steel product deliveries, followed by the pipe sector, with its share of overall consumption in the domestic rolled steel market amounting to 25.4 percent, and machine building, with a share of 16.3 percent.
