Ukraine’s metal figures for Jan-Feb 2005

Data from Ukraine's Metallurgprom Association show that Ukraine produced 6.2 million tons of steel in January-February 2005, down 2.5% from a year ago. The country's cast iron production remained unchanged at 5.15 million tons, but steelmakers consumed only 918'000 tons of steel scrap through the first two months of 2005. A year prior, steelmakers consumed nearly 1.13 million tons of scrap. Ukraine also exported approximately 250'000 tons of metal scrap during the January-February 2005 period. The figure is 21% lower year on year. The country exported most of its scrap to Turkey, Italy, Egypt, and Moldova.
