Ukraine’s crude steel and pig iron outputs down slightly in January

Ukraine’s steel industry has registered slightly weaker pig iron and crude steel production results for January this year, though its finished steel output showed some improvement, according to the official data.

In January, Ukraine-based integrated mills produced 1.729 million mt of pig iron, down 3.3 percent year on year. As for crude steel production, the total volume inched down by 0.4 percent year on year to 1.843 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned. As of February 12, Ukraine had 16 blast furnaces operational out of 21 in total. In addition, 11 out of 16 oxygen converters and six out of 15 EAF’s are operational.

In the finished steel segment, in January Ukraine’s output improved by 7.3 percent year on year to 1.680 million mt, the official data show.
