The Ukrainian government intends to cancel until 2015 the duty and VAT for imports of equipment and parts which are not produced in Ukraine and which will be used for the modernization of the production facilities of mining, metallurgical and chemical enterprises.

In addition, in its bill entitled "Concerning the modernization of companies from the mining, metallurgical and chemical branches," the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine envisages tax exemptions of up to 50 percent of profits which are placed in a special account and are directed towards modernization.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine is urging the country's steelmakers to reduce their domestic prices to the export price levels.

In addition, according to Ukraine's deputy coal minister Anatolii Korzun, the Ukrainian government is ready to consider returning to state ownership those private coal producers that are unable to work effectively under the conditions of global financial crisis. "We are ready to consider the return of private mines to state administration," stated Mr. Korzun.
