On February 10, RAK STEEL, the second largest producer of steel rebar in the UAE, announced its receipt of certification of approval from UK-based CARES within one year of commencement of operations.

RAK Steel is now entitled to indicate CARES approval on its following products; BS 4449 2005 Grade B500B 10 to 32 mm rebars and BS 4449 1997 Grade 460 B 10 to 32 mm rebars.

The accreditation of non-profit UK-based CARES, Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel, is recognized globally and will assure customers and end-users of rebars that RAK Steel operates a quality system that complies with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001 2000 and relevant CARES quality and operations assessment schedules.

Commenting on the receipt of CARES certification, Ajay Aggarwal, CEO of RAK Steel LLC, stated "It is an important milestone achievement to receive CARES certification. RAK Steel will now aggressively look for exports markets to expand their sales. RAK Steel customers can now be more confident of consistent supplies of quality rebars and services from RAK Steel."

RAK Steel, a joint venture of Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA), is a rolling mill with a 500,000 mt annual capacity of deformed steel bars. The producer commenced commercial operations in January 2008, producing and selling 220,000 mt of rebars in 2008.
