According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in April this year Turkey's total wire rod exports amounted to 73,588 metric tons, falling 26.6 percent month on month and down 22.3 percent compared to April 2012, and maintaining an up-and-down trend on month-on-month basis over the latest five months as indicated in the graph below. In April, the average price of Turkey's wire rod exports stood at $621/mt, falling compared to the average of $658/mt recorded in the same month of 2012.
Turkey's wire export volumes to Libya, which were at high monthly levels of around 15,000 mt in the November 2012-January 2013 period, regained their high levels in April with 16,012 mt, after the sharp fall in February to 1,453 mt. On the other hand, Turkey's overall wire rod exports to the Middle East region totaled just 18,761 mt in April, having generally remained under 20,000 mt since December 2012, except March 2013. Meanwhile, Turkey's wire rod exports to Singapore had hit a historical record in January this year with 41,222 mt, while there is no record of wire rod exports to Singapore in February, March and April this year.
