Turkey's Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) is planning a commercial visit to Nigeria and Ghana on July 1-6 with the participation of 20 steel producer and exporter firms in order to evaluate new business opportunities, with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Economy.

Regarding the purpose of the planned visit, the CIB stated, "All these kinds of commercial visits...are aimed at increasing activity in markets to which the country exports less for a bigger market share. The official visits aim to overcome the obstacles to trade opportunities with the region."

As SteelOrbis previously reported, similar visits were paid in March this year to Pakistan and Bangladesh and in October last year to Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Turkey's basic steel product exports to Ghana in the first four months of 2012 increased by 127.5 percent year on year to 38,780 metric tons, while in the period in question Turkish basic steel product exports to Nigeria more than quadrupled compared to 33,525 mt recorded in Januarty-April 2011, reaching 147,120 mt, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
