The Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB) has announced that it paid a commercial visit to Central America and the Caribbean region on October 1-8.

The CIB trade committee visited Colombia, Panama and the Dominican Republic, while it held more than a thousand meetings with companies from other countries in the region apart from the abovementioned ones. Besides trade collaboration between regional companies and Turkish steel exporters, joint investment opportunities were evaluated as well.

According to the CIB, total steel imports of the 34 countries in Central America and the Caribbean region amount to 10 million mt. Colombia, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama account for 70 percent of the region’s total steel imports, while the main imported products are rebar, hot rolled flat steel, coated steel, cold rolled flat steel and semi-finished steel products. Turkey’s current share in Central American and Caribbean imports is about five percent and the main products which Turkey exports to the region include rebar, beams, hot rolled flat steel, wire rod and seamless pipe.
