According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first five months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 323,187 units, rising by 13.5 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in May Turkey's motor vehicle sales saw an increase of 11 percent month on month and were up 14.2 percent compared to the same month of 2012, totaling 85,421 units.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 233,816 units, rising by 20.7 percent year on year. In May, passenger car sales in Turkey rose by 23.6 percent year on year to 62,383 units, up 9.5 percent compared to April.
In the first five months, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 350,722 units, rising by seven percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 195,581 units, rising by 5.4 percent, both year on year. The country exported 138,253 small trucks in the period in question, up four percent year on year. The revenue for total motor vehicle and component exports in the January-May period amounted to $8.81 billion, rising by three percent, while the revenue from passenger car exports totaled $2.91 billion, rising by 6.9 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
In the first five months of 2013, Turkey's passenger car imports rose by 34.2 percent year on year, totaling 183,138 units. In the given period, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 222,245 units, rising by 27.6 percent year on year.
