According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first eight months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 485,611 units, falling by 15.3 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In August alone, Turkey's motor vehicle sales saw a slight decrease of 0.8 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and were down 6.5 percent month on month, totaling 60,871 units.
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 330,257 units, falling by 11.25 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 486,113 units, falling by nine percent year on year, while its passenger car exports amounted to 265,119 units, falling by 10 percent compared to the same period last year. The revenue for total motor vehicle and component exports in the January-August period amounted to $12.7 billion, falling six percent, while the revenue of passenger car exports totaled $3.95 billion, falling by nine percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first eight months of 2012, Turkey's passenger car imports fell by 6.3 percent year on year, totaling 239,784 units. In the given period, Turkey's motor vehicle imports totaled 302,746 units, falling by 10.95 percent year on year.
