In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 33,979 units, decreasing by 54.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 27,126 units, down 52.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 156,990 units, decreasing by 50 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 537,889 units, down seven percent, while passenger car exports decreased by 9.3 percent to 356,200 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 148,210 small trucks, down 7.5 percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports decreased by 5.6 percent to $13.37 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $4.9 billion, falling by 12.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In May, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 17,017 units, decreasing by 63.3 percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 14,012 units, down 63.3 percent, year on year. In the January-May period of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 85,050 units, falling by 56.1 percent, while passenger car imports totaled 68,623 units, declining by 56.2 percent, both compared to the same period of 2018.
