In August this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales totaled 26,862 units, decreasing by 23.6 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the same month, Turkey's passenger car sales totaled 21,544 units, down 20.1 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, Turkey's motor vehicle sales amounted to 246,161 units, decreasing by 46 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 806,666 units, down 5.9 percent, while passenger car exports decreased by 8.2 percent to 526,496 units, both year on year. In the same period, the country exported 230,136 small trucks, down five percent year on year. In the period in question, revenues from total motor vehicle and component exports decreased by 4.3 percent to $20.33 billion, while the revenues from passenger car exports totaled $7.41 billion, falling by 9.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In August, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 16,426 units, decreasing by 28.6 percent year on year, while passenger car imports totaled 13,516 units, down 27.3 percent, year on year. In the January-August period of this year, the country's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 134,565 units, falling by 52.2 percent, while passenger car imports totaled 110,160 units, declining by 52 percent, both compared to the same period of 2018.
