Turkish motor vehicle output down 12.1 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 136,517 units, decreasing by 7.9 percent year on year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD). In the January-May period of the year, Turkey's motor vehicle output totaled 625,946 units, down 12.1 percent year on year.

In May, passenger car output amounted to 96,345 units, rising by 0.7 percent, while commercial vehicle output totaled 40,172 units, down 23.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the January-May period of the current year, passenger car output totaled 418,626 units, declining by 11.2 percent, and commercial vehicle production amounted to 207,320 units, decreasing by 13.7 percent, both compared to 2018.

The overall production capacity utilization rate of the Turkish automotive industry was 79.5 percent in May, while the rate was 72.8 percent for the first four months of the year.
