Turkish exports decrease strongly in February

On March 2, the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) chairman Mehmet Büyükekşi announced Turkey's export figures for February 2009.
 
According to the TIM statement, the country's exports in February decreased by 35.2 percent year on year to $6.866 billion. Meanwhile, Turkey's exports declined by 31.7 percent year on year in the January-February period to $13.908 billion.
 
During February, Turkish iron and steel exports decreased to $297.394 million, compared to $496.874 million in the same month of 2008. In addition, Turkey's iron and steel exports in the two months ending on February 28, 2009 fell by 37.6 percent year on year to $595.751 million.
