According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in June of the current year Turkish
crude steel output fell slightly compared to May, amounting to 2.96 million mt, constituting the second highest monthly volume this year, after May. In the first half of the year,
Turkey's total
crude steel production decreased by 2.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 17.4 million mt.
According to TCUD,
Turkey's finished steel
production increased by 1.9 percent in the first five months of the year, reaching 14.57 million mt, influenced by the 89 percent year-on-year increase in the import of semi-finished products in the first five months. Meanwhile, in the five months in question long steel
production in
Turkey fell one percent year on year to 1.1 million mt. On the other hand, the rise in the
production of flat steel products boosted
Turkey's total finished steel
production in the first five months.
During the January-May period,
Turkey's total apparent steel consumption rose by 4.1 percent year on year to 7.12 million mt. Consumption of long products, which are usually consumed by the construction sector, increased by three percent year on year in January-May to 6.2 million mt. Long steel products constituted 72 percent of
Turkey's total steel
production and 51.6 percent of its total steel consumption in the given period.
