Turkish construction activity revives in Q2

In the second quarter of 2010, the number of hours worked in construction in Turkey rose by 2.3 percent year on year, according to data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), while the increase rate on quarter-on-quarter basis was recorded at 13.5 percent.
 
The year-on-year increase mainly arose from the number of hours worked in civil engineering, which increased by seven percent year on year and was up 21.4 percent over the first quarter, while the number of hours worked in construction of buildings rose slightly by 0.2 percent year on year and was up 11.1 percent quarter on quarter.
 
Meanwhile, in the given period, employment in the domestic construction industry increased by 3.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009 and was up 12.7 percent quarter on quarter.
