As stated by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in September this year Turkey’s steel import from China fell by 58 percent to 195,000 mt, primarily because Turkey’s billet imports from the same source declined by 74 percent to 79,000 mt in September, both year on year.
Turkey’s steel imports from China in the January-September period of this year rose by 2.8 percent on year-on-year basis to 2.02 million mt, with the impact of the sharp decrease in September imports from China, compared to the 22 percent increase in the January-August period of this year.
In the first nine months of this year, Turkey’s billet imports from China continued to increase in spite of the considerable decline in billet imports in September, with a 27.2 percent rise on year-on-year basis to 1.06 million mt. In the January-September period of this year, Turkey’s flat steel imports from China decreased by 38 percent to 411,576 mt, while its long steel imports from China were up by 68.6 percent to 251,248 mt, both on year-on-year basis.
