In February, Turkey's steel imports saw a significant increase of 65.6 percent year on year to 1.59 million mt, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In the given month, Turkey's billet imports totaled 441,000 mt, up 136.9 percent, its slab imports increased by 140.6 percent to 275,000 mt, while its flat steel imports totaled 679,000 mt, up 40.8 percent, long steel imports amounted to 106,000 mt, down 8.1 percent, and steel pipe imports increased by 42.2 percent to 33,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in the January-February period, Turkey's steel imports increased by 31.1 percent year on year to 2.72 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's billet imports increased by 64.8 percent to 750,000 mt, while its slab imports rose by 56.5 percent to 341,000 mt, both year on year. Also in the first two months this year, Turkey's flat steel imports increased by 23.5 percent to 1.28 million mt, its long steel imports moved down by 12.7 percent to 208,000 mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 68,000 mt, up seven percent, all on year-on-year basis.
