In September this year, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 22.1 percent to 1.53 million mt, year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of September, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 10 percent to 404,000 mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports rose by 43.5 percent to 928,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In September, total long steel product imports were up by 21.2 percent to 114,000 mt, year on year.
In September, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 80 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 102 percent in the same month of 2016.
In the first nine months of this year, the decreasing trend in Turkey's steel imports continued in spite of the rise in September. In the given period, the country’s steel imports decreased by 14.6 percent to 11.8 million mt, year on year.
In the January-September period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 33.2 percent to 3.4 million mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports decreased by 0.8 percent to 6.6 million mt, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 109 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 94 percent in the same period of 2016.
