According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in April this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.7 billion, decreasing by 2.6 percent year on year and up 11.8 percent compared to March this year. Turkey's iron and steel imports rose 11.2 percent in March compared to February. Iron and steel ranked fourth among the most imported products of the country in the given month.
Meanwhile, in April Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, rose by 30.6 percent compared to April 2012 and were down 15.7 percent month on month, amounting to $210 million.
In the first four months of 2013, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $6.2 billion, decreasing by 6.9 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $874 million, up by 27.2 percent year on year.
