According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in August this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.47 billion, decreasing by 12.3 percent year on year and down 10.6 percent compared to July. Iron and steel ranked third among the most imported products of the country in the given month.
Meanwhile, in August imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 16th among the products with the highest import value, fell by 6.9 percent compared to July 2011, but were up 3.7 percent month on month, amounting to $200.4 million.
In the first eight months of 2012, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $13.3 billion, decreasing slightly by 0.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.48 billion, down by 13.8 percent year on year.
