According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in September this year Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 3.6 percent compared to the previous month and were down 32.5 percent compared to September 2011, amounting to 25,407 metric tons. The value of these imports was $64.3 million, increasing by 2.3 percent as compared to August this year and down 45.5 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 271,333 metric tons, increasing 1.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011. The value of these imports was $705.5 million, decreasing by 13.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first nine months of the year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 63,546 metric tons, increasing by 3.2 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in the first three quarters this year was South Korea with 36,189 metric tons, down 9.6 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Germany exported 32,531 mt of stainless flat steel to Turkey in the January-September period of the year, rising by 15.6 percent on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Finland decreased by almost half on year-on-year basis to 14,347 mt in the period in question.
