In April this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 106,765 mt, rising by almost five times year on year and down 61 percent compared to March, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $46.8 million, up from $5.8 million in April 2016 and falling by 57.8 percent month on month.
In the first four months, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 782,991 mt, up 37.3 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 118.9 percent to $309.9 million, both year on year.
In the January-April period this year, Turkey imported 351,832 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 293,496 mt.
