In October this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 386,679 mt, rising by 60.7 percent month on month and up from 50,323 mt in October 2016, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $172.4 million, rising tenfold compared to October 2016 and up 71.88 percent month on month.
In the first ten months of the current year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 1.88 million mt, up 36.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 84.5 percent to $782.7 million, both year on year.
In the January-October period this year, Turkey imported 844,142 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 532,449 mt.
