Turkey’s slab imports up 126.4 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 253,784 mt, rising by 105.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $84.13 million, up 29.4 percent compared to August 2014.

In the January-August period, Turkey's slab imports increased by 126.4 percent year on year to 2.1 million mt. Meanwhile, the value of Turkey's slab imports in the given period was $762.2 million, up 55.6 percent year on year.
 
In the first eight months, Turkey imported 849,730 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 46.11 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the year in question, followed by Russia, which supplied 612,957 mt, rising from 72,025 mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.
