In February this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 169,318 mt, decreasing by 48 percent year on year and down 27 percent compared to January, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $66.5 million, down 18 percent compared to February 2016 and falling by 22.4 percent month on month.
In the first two months, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 401,896 mt, down 13.4 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 31.8 percent to $152.2 million, both year on year.
In the January-February period this year, Turkey imported 200,549 metric tons of slab from Russia. Russia was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Brazil, which supplied 136,561 mt.
