In October this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 6.5 percent year on year to 1.23 million metric tons and was down 10.2 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $283 million, up 6.3 percent year on year and falling by 8.6 percent compared to September.
In the January-October period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by seven percent to 14.15 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 14.4 percent to $3.14 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first ten months of the current year, Turkey imported 2,687,575 mt of scrap from the US, down 9.13 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 2,270,244 mt in the given period, up 9.77 percent year on year.
