In 2016, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by nine percent to 17.7 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $3.9 billion with a 7.6 percent decrease compared to 2015, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In 2016, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 34.2 percent to 7.9 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by 15.1 percent to 3.3 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 2.8 million mt, down 20.3 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the given year, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 60.1 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 18.4 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 16.1 percent.
