Turkey’s scrap imports up 7.15 percent in January-September

In September this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 35.5 percent year on year to 1.37 million metric tons and was up six percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $309.6 million, up 28.3 percent year on year and rising by 4.8 percent compared to August.

In the January-September period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by 7.15 percent to 12.91 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 16.22 percent to $2.85 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In the first nine months of the current year, Turkey imported 2,476,895 mt of scrap from the US, down 5.54 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 2,085,696 mt in the given period, up 12.79 percent year on year.
