In September this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 43 percent year on year to 1.23 million metric tons and was down 35.3 percent compared to August, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $425.56 million, down 30 percent year on year and decreasing by 36.3 percent month on month.
In the first nine months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 15.8 million mt, up 5.8 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 33.2 percent to $5.53 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 2,782,487 mt of scrap from the US, up 16.87 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 2,163,052 mt in the given period, down 3.97 percent year on year.
