Turkey’s scrap imports up 40.6 percent in Jan-Feb

In February this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 86.9 percent year on year to 1.85 million metric tons and was up 10.35 percent compared to January, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $628.3 million, up 131.2 percent year on year and rising by 16.4 percent month on month.

In the first two months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 3.54 million mt, up 40.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 76.3 percent to $1.17 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 656,695 mt of scrap from the US, up 70.09 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 509,897 mt in the given period, up 56.42 percent year on year.
