In March this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 6.2 percent year on year to 1.74 million metric tons and was up 75.4 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $474.5 million, up 29.4 percent year on year and up 74.6 percent compared to February.
In the first three months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 4.26 million mt, rising by 2.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 38.4 percent to $1.13 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 833,426 mt of scrap from the US, down 5.92 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 586,536 mt in the given period, down 23.74 percent year on year.
