Turkey’s scrap imports up 20.66 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 73.9 percent year on year to 2.15 million metric tons and was up seven percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $710.9 million, up 151 percent year on year and up 16.8 percent compared to September.

In the first ten months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 17.08 million mt, rising by 20.66 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 54.7 percent to $4.86 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 2,931,222 mt of scrap from the US, up 9.07 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 2,463,831 mt in the given period, up 20.92 percent year on year.
