In September this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 46 percent year on year to 2.01 million metric tons and was up 29 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $608.84 million, up 96.6 percent year on year and up 38.4 percent compared to August.
In the first nine months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 14.93 million mt, rising by 15.6 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 45 percent to $4.15 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 2,380,827 mt of scrap from the US, down 3.88 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 2,252,489 mt in the given period, up 21.57 percent year on year.
