In August this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 21.1 percent year on year to 1.9 million metric tons and was down 0.7 percent compared to July, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $667.7 million, up 51.8 percent year on year and decreasing by 0.7 percent month on month.
In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 14.6 million mt, up 12.8 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 44.2 percent to $5.11 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 2,518,938 mt of scrap from the US, up 25.8 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 2,019,887 mt in the given period, up 4.44 percent year on year.
