Turkey’s scrap imports up 11.9 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 20.4 percent year on year to 1.56 million metric tons and was down 22.77 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $439.9 million, up 49 percent year on year and down 21.4 percent compared to July.

In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 12.91 million mt, rising by 11.9 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 38.9 percent to $3.54 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 2,002,162 mt of scrap from the US, down 8.20 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 1,934,043 mt in the given period, up 16.45 percent year on year.
